Terms of Service

Terms of Service for MathGenie

Effective Date: September 12, 2025

Welcome to MathGenie! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the MathGenie website, application, and services (collectively, the "Service"), provided by Centroid Labs, LLC ("we," "us," or "our").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility and Parental Consent

The Service is intended for students to get help with math. If a user is under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in their jurisdiction), they may only use the Service with the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Parents/guardians sign in via Google (Supabase Auth) and provide consent when creating a student profile. You represent that you are at least 18 years old and agree to these Terms on behalf of the minor. You are responsible for the minor's activity on the Service.

2. Description of Service

MathGenie is an AI‑powered math tutor. Users can submit math problems via text or image upload. The Service provides step‑by‑step guidance to help the user learn how to solve problems. During our Alpha release, we do not persist chat transcripts on our servers.

3. User Accounts

To use certain features of the Service, a parent/guardian must sign in with Google. You agree to provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for your account and must promptly notify us of any unauthorized use.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Service (text and images of math problems, “User Content”).

License to Operate the Service: You grant us a worldwide, non‑exclusive, royalty‑free license to host, process, and display User Content as necessary to operate the Service.

Optional License to Improve the Service: If you enable the “Allow data use to improve tutoring” setting for a student, you additionally grant us a license to use de‑identified User Content to improve, train, and enhance our models and the Service. If you do not enable this setting, we will not use your User Content for model improvement or training, only to provide the Service.

We do not sell your User Content.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Upload or transmit any content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Upload any images or material that is not a math problem or is inappropriate for minors.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or engage in any activity that disrupts or interferes with the Service.

We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. Third‑Party Services

We use third‑party proprietary and open‑source language models (hosted by us or trusted cloud vendors) — for example, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, and hosted open‑source models — to process student inputs and generate tutoring responses. Conversation content (including problem text and images) is transmitted to these providers for processing.

We do not share personal or account information (such as parent name or email) with these providers. We may include limited educational context (for example, grade or skill level) to tailor explanations.

Where available, we configure providers so your inputs are not used to train their models. You agree not to include personal information in prompts.

7. Our Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to the Service itself, including its "look and feel," the AI models, software, and our branding, are and will remain the exclusive property of Centroid Labs, LLC.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" AND "AS-AVAILABLE," WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

As the Service is in an early stage of development (Alpha/Beta), you acknowledge that it may contain bugs, errors, and inaccuracies. We do not warrant that the guidance provided will always be accurate or complete.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, including for a breach of these Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes (for example, we start storing chat history), we will notify you via the website and/or email to the parent/guardian on file and update the effective date above. Your continued use after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Contact Us
