Privacy Policy for MathGenie

Effective Date: September 12, 2025

Centroid Labs, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information in relation to our MathGenie service (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account Information (Parent/Guardian):

We use Google Sign‑In via Supabase Auth. We receive basic account details from Google (for example, name, email, avatar) and store your user ID in Supabase. We do not collect or store passwords.

Student Profiles and Consent:

Parents/guardians can create student profiles. For each student we store:

  • Display name and grade level
  • Consent metadata: method (e.g., parent Google OAuth), timestamp, IP, and policy version
  • Optional setting: whether you allow data use to improve tutoring

User Content & Interaction Data:

  • Math Problems: The problems you submit (text or images) are processed to generate responses.
  • Chat Content (Alpha): During our Alpha release, we do not persist chat transcripts on our servers. Content is processed transiently to respond to your requests. In a future release, we may add chat history with parental controls.
  • Feedback: If you provide feedback (e.g., ratings), we may collect it to improve the experience.

Usage Information:

We may collect limited technical and usage information (e.g., device/browser type, timestamps) to operate and secure the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Provide and Maintain the Service: Operate our platform, manage accounts, process your inputs, and deliver AI tutoring.
  • Model Processing Notice: Conversation content is sent to third‑party proprietary and open‑source language models to generate responses. We minimize personal data in these requests and ask that you avoid including personal information in prompts.
  • Improve the Service (Optional): If you enable the “Allow data use to improve tutoring” setting for a student, we may analyze de‑identified data to improve explanations, safety systems, and overall quality. If the setting is off, we use your data only to provide the service.
  • Communications: Contact the parent/guardian about service updates or account matters.
  • Safety and Security: Prevent abuse, troubleshoot, and protect the Service.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • AI/Cloud Providers: We use third‑party proprietary and open‑source language models (hosted by us or trusted cloud vendors) — for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, and hosted open‑source models — to process math problems and generate tutoring responses. Your conversation content (including problem text and images) is transmitted to these providers for processing. We do not share personal or account information (such as parent name or email) with these providers. We may include limited educational context (for example, grade or skill level) to tailor explanations. Where available, we configure providers so your inputs are not used to train their models.
  • Service Providers: Vendors who help us operate the Service (e.g., hosting, analytics) under contractual obligations to protect your information.
  • Legal and Safety: When required by law or to protect users and the Service.
  • Aggregated/De‑identified: We may share information that cannot reasonably identify an individual.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

Parents and guardians have the right to:

  • Review the personal information we have collected from their child.
  • Request that we delete that information.
  • Refuse to permit further collection or use of their child's information.

To make such a request, please contact us at info@centroidlabs.com.

5. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information we collect from loss, theft, and unauthorized use or modification. However, no security system is impenetrable.

6. Data Retention

During our Alpha release, we do not persist chat transcripts on our servers. Student profiles and consent records are retained until a parent deletes them or requests deletion.

We may retain limited logs and technical data for security and reliability. If you have enabled the optional data‑use setting, we may retain de‑identified data to improve the Service. We will update this policy before adding persistent chat history.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes (for example, we start storing chat history), we will notify you via the website and/or email to the parent/guardian on file and update the effective date above.

8. Contact Us
